We are, though, always open to spotlight pitches for our ongoing "Spotlight" series in our newsletter, offering quick glimpses at public lands in the South. These pieces are quite short—typically around 600 words—combining firsthand description with ecological, geological, and historical context, though we encourage creativity.
To pitch a spotlight, please send an email to editorial@southlands.media describing who you are and the public land you'd like to spotlight. Include “[pitch: spotlight]” in your subject line.
We are also accepting submissions for a new "Postcard" series—brief, first-person vignettes from the Southern wild. These are also around 600 words, ideally. To pitch a postcard, please send a complete draft, and at least one photo to editorial@southlands.media. Include "[pitch: postcard]" in your subject line.
Note that we are unable to pay for spotlights and postcards, but do credit writers and link to their work/portfolio.
